Free Art Friday – Pompey Periodic Table
Free Art Friday is a concept that involves creatives producing pieces of artwork, to be left on the street for members of the public to discover, take home and enjoy.
Although the notion of producing free art has been around for many years, local Southsea artist, My Dog Sighs, can be attributed for the creation of the ‘Free Art Friday’ phrase and pushing the concept forward locally.
One of the ideas behind the conception of Free Art Friday, is described on the movements Facebook Page as:
“an opportunity [for the artist] to create work free from the constraints of commerce, to voice an idea, shout a political message or just amuse and confuse the viewer… Many free art Friday participants’ work is humorous and good natured, hoping to cheer up the walk to work of the viewer. Hoping to make them question everything. To expect the unexpected and realise that along with the need to sell, promote, fight the system and rebel, there is also a need to embellish and entertain in a non-profit way without the need to cause damage to property.”
So far over 4000 pieces of free art have been created, left out, and taken home by the public. Here at Divine Aesthetic, we love the idea of being able to add a little bit of joy to someone’s day, which is why we are going to participate in the Free Art Friday movement!
Keep an eye out around Southsea this Friday, as we will be placing 10 of our Pompey Periodic Tables somewhere for you to find!
The Pompey Periodic Table is available as an A3 or A2 print from the Divine Aesthetic Printshop website.
